The Africa-China Centre for Policy and Advisory (ACCPA) has hosted China’s Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Cong Song, for a special engagement with media professionals participating in the 2026 Ghana–China Media Fellowship in Accra.
The session, held at the ACCPA Office, focused on “China’s Approach to Global Governance, Security, and International Cooperation.” It provided fellows with an opportunity to interact directly with the ambassador and deepen their understanding of China’s perspectives on major global issues.
During his presentation, Ambassador Cong discussed China’s four major global initiatives: the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, Global Civilization Initiative and Global Governance Initiative.
He explained that the initiatives seek to promote development, peaceful conflict resolution, dialogue among civilisations and a more inclusive international governance system.
The ambassador highlighted the importance of placing development at the centre of international cooperation, particularly as developing countries continue to confront poverty, food insecurity, climate change and widening economic inequalities.
He also called for stronger representation of African countries in global decision-making, arguing that international institutions must better reflect contemporary political and economic realities. According to him, developing countries deserve a greater voice in decisions affecting global peace, finance, trade and development.
Ambassador Cong further emphasised the growing role of people-to-people exchanges in strengthening Ghana–China relations. He noted that engagement involving students, journalists, academics, cultural institutions and young people could help deepen mutual understanding beyond official diplomacy, trade and infrastructure cooperation.
The interaction allowed fellows to ask questions and exchange perspectives with the ambassador on China’s global policy vision, Africa’s role in international affairs and the future of Ghana–China cooperation.
ACCPA Executive Director Paul Frimpong underscored the importance of equipping media professionals with the knowledge and context required to report effectively on Ghana–China relations. He noted that the media must not only help the public understand the evolving partnership but also ask policymakers the critical questions necessary to promote accountability and national interest.
The Ghana–China Media Fellowship is an ACCPA initiative designed to strengthen informed, evidence-based and balanced media coverage of Ghana’s engagement with China.
