Obert Bore
Obert Bore is a Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Certified Sustainability Professional, a registered legal practitioner, and an emerging scholar working at the intersection of sustainability governance, international economic law, and responsible resource development. With more than eight years of professional experience across Southern and Central Africa, he has built strong expertise in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) integration, business and human rights, mining governance, and sustainable development policy.
He holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Trade Law with distinction from the University of Cape Town, a Master of Environmental Law and Governance from North-West University, and an LLB (cum laude) from the University of Venda. Bore’s research focuses on China–Africa relations, particularly Chinese investment in Africa’s critical minerals sector and the changing geopolitics of energy transition minerals. He is especially interested in how global competition for critical minerals is reshaping trade, investment, industrialisation, and development pathways across the continent. His work examines China’s role in mineral value chains, the Belt and Road Initiative, resource governance, and the broader political economy of the global energy transition.
Professionally, he has worked extensively in Zimbabwe, Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Namibia, and South Africa, engaging with governments, civil society, development partners, and industry stakeholders on responsible mining and resource governance. Through this work, Bore seeks to advance equitable and sustainable critical minerals governance frameworks that maximise developmental benefits for African countries while strengthening accountability, protecting human rights, and promoting environmental stewardship.
