Ismail Sidqui
Ismail Sidqui’s work focuses on the intersection of sustainable finance, governance, and development policy in Africa.
Before joining the Centre, he served as Policy & Training Associate at J-PAL’s Applied Lab for Agriculture in Rabat, where he translated impact evaluation findings into policy guidance and co-developed training programmes for policymakers working on agricultural development across the continent. Prior to that, he was Africa & Middle East Regional Coordinator at UNEP Finance Initiative, supporting financial institutions on ESG reporting, climate risk assessment, and access to climate financing. He contributed to the V20 Sustainable Insurance Facility report on MSME risk transfer in Sub-Saharan Africa and coordinated stakeholder engagement with partners including GFANZ, PCAF, and the Climate Bond Initiative.
His earlier career was rooted in Africa-China relations. As Project Manager at the African Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai, he facilitated cross-border trade and investment between African SMEs and Chinese partners, and produced market intelligence for over 500 members across both regions.
Ismail holds an MSc in Political Science from Leiden University, and a Bachelor’s in Economics and International Trade from Donghua University in Shanghai. He also holds a Sustainable Finance Certificate from Erasmus School of Management. He speaks French, Arabic, English, and Chinese.
