The Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) plays a crucial role in aligning with Africa’s Agenda 2063 by driving regional integration through infrastructure development, said Dennis Munene Mwaniki, Executive Director of the China-Africa Center at the Africa Policy Institute.
Speaking during a post-FOCAC webinar hosted by the Africa-China Centre for Policy and Advisory, Mwaniki emphasized that China’s investments in Africa continue to support key development goals outlined in the continent’s long-term strategic vision. He noted that the construction of roads, railways, and other infrastructure projects remains a critical pillar of China-Africa cooperation.
“FOCAC aligns with Africa’s Agenda 2063, supporting regional integration through the construction of roads, railways, and other infrastructure projects,” Mwaniki stated.
The webinar, themed Opportunities, Challenges, and the Future of Chinese Investments in Africa, brought together experts and policymakers to discuss the impact of China’s engagements across the continent. As a panelist, Mwaniki highlighted that beyond physical infrastructure, FOCAC also fosters trade, economic partnerships, and technological collaboration, which are essential for Africa’s long-term development.
The discussion further explored challenges such as debt sustainability, environmental concerns, and the need for greater local participation in Chinese-funded projects. However, Mwaniki reiterated that FOCAC remains one of the most structured platforms for Africa-China cooperation, providing consistent opportunities for investment and growth.
With the next FOCAC Summit scheduled for later this year, stakeholders anticipate renewed commitments that will further strengthen Africa-China relations and accelerate progress towards Agenda 2063.
