Overview

China’s rise as a global economic power has been accompanied by the implementation of various global initiatives. These initiatives, such as the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the Global Development Initiative (GDI), the Global Security Initiative (GSI) and the Global Civilization Initiative (GCI) aims to promote development, connectivity, and economic cooperation on an international scale.

While these initiatives foster economic progress, there are also potential concerns of perceived intrusiveness. Finding the right balance between development and intrusiveness is a crucial consideration when analyzing the impact of China’s global initiatives.

This webinar seeks to explore the multifaceted dimensions of China’s role on the global stage examining the challenges and opportunities posed by its initiatives and inviting reflection on how the international community navigates the fine line between development aspirations, especially that of the global south.
