The Africa-China Centre for Policy and Advisory (ACCPA) and the Africa Policy Institute (API) have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening research, policy dialogue, and strategic collaboration on Africa’s engagement in global governance and sustainable development.
The partnership establishes a robust framework for cooperation between the two leading African think tanks, focused on advancing policy-relevant research, promoting Africa–China cooperation, and fostering South–South partnerships in an increasingly multipolar world.
The MoU was signed by Mr. Paul Frimpong, Executive Director of the Africa-China Centre for Policy and Advisory (ACCPA), and Mr. Dennis Munene Mwaniki, Executive Director of the China–Africa Center at the Africa Policy Institute (API).
Speaking on the partnership, Mr. Paul Frimpong noted:
“This collaboration represents a new chapter in strengthening Africa’s intellectual and policy leadership on the continent’s evolving relations with China and other global partners. Together with API, we aim to shape a new narrative rooted in research excellence, policy innovation, and African agency.”
In his remarks, Mr. Dennis Munene Mwaniki emphasized the importance of intra-African collaboration among think tanks:
“API is delighted to join hands with ACCPA in advancing shared goals that speak to Africa’s development priorities. This partnership will enhance evidence-based policy formulation, promote academic exchange, and deepen Africa’s voice in shaping its own development path.”
Under the MoU, ACCPA and API will collaborate in key areas, including:
- Joint research and publications on Africa–China cooperation, trade, climate policy, and global governance.
- Policy dialogues, conferences, and forums bring together scholars, diplomats, and policymakers.
- Capacity-building and training programs for young researchers and professionals.
- Media and public outreach initiatives to promote informed discourse on Africa’s international partnerships.
The partnership underscores the growing role of African think tanks in leading policy innovation, shaping sustainable development, and contributing to a stronger, more united continental voice in global affairs.
