Research Experts for Sino-African Green Finance Alliance (SAGFA) Project
About the Project:
The Sino-African Green Finance Alliance (SAGFA) is an initiative focused on exploring the critical gaps in financing for green manufacturing and climate resilience across Africa, particularly in Ghana and Ethiopia. This project seeks to leverage China’s longstanding partnership with Africa to promote sustainable industrialization and green finance, thereby advancing climate resilience on the continent. As a research and advocacy initiative, SAGFA intends to highlight opportunities, challenges, and policy gaps surrounding green finance for sustainable manufacturing and industrial development.
Position Summary:
We are seeking research experts to join our dynamic team to support the research component of the project. The selected candidates will work collaboratively to produce high-quality research outputs that inform the project’s advocacy and engagement activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive research and analysis on the state of green finance in Sub-Saharan Africa, specifically related to sustainable manufacturing and industrial development.
- Examine and analyze China's green finance policies and investments in Africa, focusing on their impact on green industrialization in Ghana and Ethiopia.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of FOCAC (Forum on China-Africa Cooperation) pillars and initiatives in promoting climate finance and clean energy transition across Africa.
- Develop policy briefs, reports, and publications that detail findings, challenges, and recommendations for advancing green manufacturing and sustainable industrial growth in Africa.
- Support knowledge sharing and policy dialogues by providing research-based insights for engagements between African (Ghana/Ethiopia) and Chinese stakeholders, including governments, financial institutions, and private sector representatives.
- Collaborate with the SAGFA project team, including other research officers, to align research outputs with the project’s advocacy and engagement objectives.
- Present findings in workshops, conferences, and seminars to engage a broad audience and foster understanding of the green finance landscape.
Required Expertise and Qualifications:
- Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD preferred) in Environmental Economics, Climate Finance, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in conducting high-quality research and analysis, particularly within green finance or climate change sectors in Africa.
- Strong understanding of financing mechanisms, climate resilience, and sustainable development strategies, particularly in the African and global green finance landscape.
- Excellent writing and communication skills, with a track record of producing research reports, policy briefs, or academic publications.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team, with strong project management skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in English is required; knowledge of Mandarin is an asset.
Preferred qualifications:
- Proven knowledge of China-Africa relations, especially in the context of economic cooperation, climate finance, or sustainable development initiatives.
- Proficiency in both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
- Experience working with or within African government institutions, international organizations, or research think tanks focused on Climate change.
- Ability to work collaboratively in cross-cultural environments.
