Overview
The Africa–China Centre for Policy & Advisory (ACCPA) and the Canadian Centre for African Affairs & Policy Research (CCAAPR) jointly convene the first session of the Africa–China–Canada Dialogue Series under the theme “Canada’s Africa Strategy in an Era of China’s Expanding Influence.”
As global dynamics shift toward a more multipolar order, Canada is reassessing its international partnerships, while Africa continues to grow in strategic importance. At the same time, China’s expanding engagement across the continent is reshaping the landscape of trade, investment, and development cooperation. This evolving landscape raises important questions for Canadian policymakers, businesses, and researchers
This webinar provides a timely platform to examine how Canada can position itself in Africa within this evolving context, while promoting balanced, evidence-based dialogue that canters Africa’s role in shaping its global partnerships.

- To examine the current state of Canada’s engagement with Africa and assess whether a clearly defined strategic framework exists
- To analyze the implications of China’s expanding economic and institutional presence across the African continent
- To explore whether Canada’s approach to Africa should be framed in terms of competition, complementarity, or strategic differentiation
- To identify priority sectors and policy areas where Canada can deepen meaningful engagement in Africa
- To promote balanced, research-driven dialogue that centres Africa’s agency in shaping its global partnerships
