
The first-ever Ghana–China Climate Summit was successfully held at the AfCFTA Auditorium in Accra, drawing over 250 participants from governments, the diplomatic community, academia, civil society, and the private sector. The summit focused on strengthening Ghana–China cooperation in climate action, renewable energy, green finance, and sustainable development, in line with the FOCAC 2024 Beijing Action Plan.
Keynote speeches were delivered by the Hon. Seidu Issifu, Ghana’s Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, and H.E. Tong Defa, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana.
Hon. Issifu expressed enthusiasm about engaging with Chinese counterparts to accelerate green growth across all sectors of Ghana’s economy. He emphasized that Ghana is ready to take full advantage of the FOCAC 2024 Beijing Action Plan on Green Development, ensuring that climate finance and cooperation are aligned with Ghana’s national priorities.
H.E. Tong Defa reaffirmed China’s strong commitment to global climate action and to supporting Africa’s green transition. He highlighted China’s achievements in renewable energy, innovation, and carbon reduction, and underscored Beijing’s readiness to implement 30 clean energy projects in Africa, as pledged at FOCAC 2024. He praised Ghana’s leadership in climate action and emphasized that China–Ghana cooperation remains a cornerstone of Africa–China green development.

In his welcome address, Mr. Paul Frimpong, Executive Director of the Africa–China Centre for Policy and Advisory (ACCPA), noted that the summit marked “a historic milestone in Ghana–China relations.” He stressed the importance of moving from policy commitments to practical solutions that impact communities, and reaffirmed ACCPA’s commitment to advancing climate cooperation through the Sino–African Green Finance Alliance (SAGFA) program, supported by the African Climate Foundation (ACF).
The summit featured keynote addresses, plenary discussions, and a networking session, which generated strong engagement and enthusiasm among delegates. Participants expressed optimism that the platform will catalyze innovative partnerships, mobilize climate finance, and deepen cooperation between Ghana and China.
The Ghana–China Climate Summit 2025 was convened under the Sino–African Green Finance Alliance (SAGFA) program of ACCPA, supported by the African Climate Foundation (ACF).
